Homer Burgess, part of RSK Group, is a family-run mechanical engineering business offering design, fabrication, installation, repair and maintenance services. We are now hiring for a Mechanical Fitter to join the team in Dumfries, Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine planned and reactive maintenance to ensure machinery runs efficiently
- Diagnose faults and repair or replace defective parts
- Assemble mechanical components and systems
- Align and fit parts in accordance with technical drawings and specifications
- Understand technical drawings and manuals to guide installations and repairs
- Conduct performance tests on machinery
- Inspect components for wear and tear or potential failure
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments
- Work with welding, grinding and cutting equipment when needed
- Follow health and safety regulations
- Ensure all work is carried out in a safe and environmentally responsible manner
- Keep records of maintenance and repairs
- Report issues to supervisors or engineers
- Work closely with engineers, electricians and other tradespeople
- Support project teams during machinery upgrades or installations
Person Specification
- Time-served tradesperson, ideally in a plant-based role or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
- Capable of assessing a job and applying experience even if the precise requirements are new
- Strong problem solving and the ability to think on your feet

Our services include engineering design and solutions, fabrication, machining, milling, turning and grinding using CAD, 2D drawing and 3D modelling.
