The Role

The Machine Shop Supervisor will oversee the daily operation of the machine shop, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and health and safety requirements are consistently achieved. The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating workflows, supporting workforce development, and assisting management with operational planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day machine shop operations, ensuring quality and production standards are met.
• Coordinate workflow and prioritise jobs to maximise efficiency.
• Review work requirements, including occasional customer site visits.
• Operate manual machine tools and manufacture components to specification.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
• Carry out milling, turning, assembly, and general machining activities.
• Perform quality inspections and maintain a safe working environment.
• Train and support team members while assisting management with planning and operational improvements.

Essential

Skills & Experience

• Experience in a machine shop or precision engineering environment.
• Strong machining and mechanical engineering knowledge.
• Experience operating manual lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Good mathematical skills and understanding of tolerances.
• Proficiency with hand tools and workshop equipment.
• Strong problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills.
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.

We are renowned for our repair and maintenance service offering, providing a range of on- and off-site services, including maintenance service programmes, fitting work around shutdown windows and quieter periods to minimise disruption to the client’s operations.

We work with clients to provide bespoke design solutions with a team of highly qualified and experienced engineers working from an extensive site, including a fabrication shop, metalwork, milling, lathe, roller and compressor equipment. Our business is approved for welding and specialises in fabricating steelwork, tanks, vessels, pipework and machinery.

Our services include engineering design and solutions, fabrication, machining, milling, turning and grinding and using computer-aided design (CAD), 2D drawing and 3D modelling. We work with clients to understand requirements and to solve problems, offering appropriate solutions.
