Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a high-quality dynamic risk and compliance assurance plan, including thematic reviews, control testing, and follow-up actions to assess compliance with regulations and the delivery of good customer outcomes.
  • Conduct thematic reviews, sample testing, and deep-dive assessments of first line activities (e.g., sales, claims, complaints, financial promotions, fraud prevention, outsourcing).
  • Identify control gaps, root causes, and regulatory risks; agree actions with business owners; track remediation to completion.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory rules, guidance, and best practice, ensuring monitoring activity is aligned with regulatory expectations.
  • Produce clear, risk-based monitoring reports and dashboards for the CRCO and relevant committees.
  • Support targeted reviews in response to incidents, regulatory developments, or emerging risks.
  • Work closely with first line teams to provide constructive challenge and support, embedding a culture of compliance by design and proportional risk management.
  • Enhance the monitoring methodology, templates, and reporting to ensure best practice, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Use MI, analytics, and trend analysis to identify emerging risks and inform monitoring priorities.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of FCA rules, particularly Consumer Duty, SYSC, PROD, ICOBS, and financial crime obligations.
  • Experience in risk and compliance monitoring, testing, or assurance within insurance or wider financial services.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, able to identify root causes and provide practical, risk-based recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear reports for senior audiences.
  • Collaborative and pragmatic approach to stakeholder engagement, able to balance regulatory compliance with commercial needs.
  • Comfortable working independently without direct reports, managing priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Advantageous: Experience with Enhanced SMCR regime, outsourcing oversight, and use of data/MI in assurance work.

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Prior experience in home insurance or personal lines insurance.
  • Relevant professional compliance qualifications (e.g., ICA, CISI, ACII) preferred.
  • Familiarity with Governance, Risk, and Compliance frameworks and controls.
  • Exposure to regulatory implications of AI and machine learning (if relevant to pricing, underwriting, or claims).
  • Experience with FCA or PRA thematic reviews or Skilled Person (s166) reviews.

Regulatory Responsibilities
