A warm and welcoming family in Herne Hill are seeking an experienced Housekeeper to support the smooth running of their home. This is a housekeeping-led role, ideal for someone who enjoys being part of a family environment and is comfortable around children, while understanding that the main focus is housekeeping and food preparation.
The family are looking for someone kind, proactive and emotionally intelligent, who is comfortable working alongside a parent at home. This is not a role for someone looking to take full control of the household, but rather someone who can integrate naturally into the family and support where needed.
This job is based primarily in Herne Hill (3 days per week required) with the responsibilities below; ideal candidates would also be able to work a 4th/5th day and drive to Balcombe to support the family at a beautiful weekend home in the countryside for an additional 1–2 days per week. Travel time allowance provided so Sussex days are comparable to London working hours - no early starts / late finishes expected.
Key Responsibilities- Full housekeeping to a high standard throughout the home
- Cleaning bathrooms on a weekly basis
- Daily kitchen tidying and upkeep
- Laundry, including washing, folding and putting away
- Managing dishes and dishwasher duties
- Changing bed linen weekly
- Hoovering and cleaning floors weekly
- Maintaining a calm, tidy and well-organised home environment
- Supporting with food preparation for family meals
- Chopping and preparing ingredients, often in larger quantities
- Comfortable assisting with regular kitchen prep as part of the role
- Occasionally supervising a child for short periods when needed
- Comfortable working in a home with young children
- Childcare is not the main focus of the role
- Previous experience working in a private household
- Strong housekeeping skills with good attention to detail
- Comfortable with food preparation as a regular part of the role
- Warm, kind and emotionally intelligent
- Comfortable working alongside a parent at home
- Able to adapt and work in a flexible, family-led environment
- Driver with own car required for Sussex days (not essential for London-only role)
