Overview
A warm and welcoming family is looking for an experienced Housekeeper to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of their large four-bedroom family home.
The role is predominantly housekeeping and household support, with very little childcare. The Housekeeper will look after the home, laundry and ironing, shopping, meal planning and family cooking, as well as helping with the morning school drop-off and afternoon collection.
There is also an important companionship element to the role. The lady of the house is at home during the day, and the family is looking for someone who will not only look after the home beautifully but will also enjoy spending time with her. Warmth, personality and a sense of humour are really important. They would love to find someone friendly, engaging and easy to be around, with a mature outlook and the ability to build a natural and comfortable relationship. Companionship and laughter are very much part of what will make someone the right fit for this family.
The family is relaxed and flexible in their approach and is looking for the same in return. There will be quieter periods and occasionally days when the Housekeeper is not required for all of their usual hours, while remaining fully paid. Equally, there may occasionally be times when some additional flexibility or longer hours are needed. They are looking for someone comfortable with this natural give and take rather than a rigid working arrangement.
More than anything, the family is looking for someone experienced, trustworthy and warm who they can feel completely comfortable having in their home. This would be a lovely long-term position for a Housekeeper who enjoys taking responsibility for a home while also valuing the personal side of working closely with a family.
Key Responsibilities
- Full housekeeping of a large family home
- Cleaning and maintaining the home to a high standard
- Laundry, ironing and general clothing care
- Keeping the home tidy, organised and well presented
- Shopping for groceries and household supplies
- Meal planning and organising shopping around the family\'s requirements
- Preparing simple family meals
- Managing household stocks and ensuring essential items are replenished
- Morning school drop-offs and afternoon collections
- Occasional practical support with the children as required
- Providing friendly companionship during the day
- Caring for the family\'s two kittens as required
- Taking initiative and identifying household tasks without needing direction
- Working flexibly with the family when occasional changes to the normal routine arise
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Housekeeper within a private household
- Confident managing a large family home
- Good family cooking skills
- Strong laundry and ironing skills
- Fluent spoken English
- Warm, friendly and naturally companionable, with a good sense of humour
- A mature outlook with good emotional intelligence
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Proactive and able to manage the working day independently
- Flexible and adaptable
- Confident driver with a full driving licence
- Enhanced DBS, or willingness to obtain one
- Previous nursing experience would be an advantage
