Salary: £34,398 - £43,595 per annum FTE (depending on experience and qualifications). Successful candidates who hold specialist (SEND) qualifications will receive an additional payment determined by the level and nature of the qualification achieved - from £1,393 up to £4,787 per annum.

Contract: Full-Time, 37 Hours per week, 52 weeks per year

To design and deliver high quality, autism specialist teaching, learning and assessment that empowers our students to thrive academically, socially and emotionally, in line with our values of Equality, Empowerment, Respect and Sustainability.

Deliver autism-specialist teaching and learning across our education provision:

  • Plan and deliver differentiated, scaffolded, practical learning sessions (e.g. woodwork, life skills) that reflect students’ strengths, sensory profiles, and processing styles.
  • Teach and model safe use of tools, equipment and materials, maintaining a structured low-arousal environment.
  • Use visual supports, routines and step‑by‑step instructions to develop independence in practical tasks.
  • Embed communication, regulation and problem‑solving skills within a hands‑on environment.
  • Track and review student progress using RARPA ensuring outcomes are meaningful and aligned with individual outcomes.
  • Celebrate achievements using autism appropriate approaches.

Understand each student and create an enabling, safe environment that supports personalised learning, wellbeing and positive risk-taking:

  • Build trusting, respectful relationships with students, supporting self‑advocacy and meaningful participation.
  • Plan for transitions, changes and sensory demands, particularly within a practical workshop.
  • Safeguard students’ welfare through trauma‑informed practice, balancing protection with confidence building and independence.
  • Maintain a safe workshop/learning environment ensuring students understand and follow safety expectations.
  • Support engagement with families and colleagues through collaborative planning and communication.

Support student progression, independence and preparing for adulthood:

  • Embed Preparing for Adulthood outcomes (community, independence, life skills, and health) into teaching and planning.
  • Ability to deliver practical, skills‑based learning.
  • Support students to access work experience and community activities.
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings, EHCP processes, transition planning and reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families and external professionals to develop and implement strategies for supporting learning and progress.

Contribute to whole-college good autism practice:

  • Model reflective, evidence‑based practice and contribute to staff development, coaching and peer learning.
  • Engage in ongoing CPD in autism, SEND and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Use competency frameworks to reflect on practice and identify development needs.

General Responsibilities for all Staff:
