The Role
As a Personal Care Assistant, you’ll be part of our client’s dedicated support team, providing essential care in their home. You’ll be employed by HomeCareDirect but will focus solely on supporting this client. The hours of work will be 7pm to 7am (waking night) on a 2-week rota.
About the Client & Your Responsibilities
This is a very rewarding vacancy for a male support worker in South Shields, providing support for our client who has sustained a spinal injury. Our client has no movement in his legs and has weakened arms and requires 24/7 support. This role requires an experienced care worker who is committed to enhancing the quality of life for our client through personalised care whilst promoting his independence.
The duties and responsibilities for this role include personal care, including catheter and bowel care, to which you must have experience of. Moving and handling as required, assisting with administering medication, providing practical assistance with tasks around the home when required. You will also assist with physiotherapy, gym and rehabilitation techniques. You must be comfortable around dogs as our client has a lovely staffy who you will feed and walk.
Requirements
Training & Support
We provide comprehensive, paid training (to CQC standards) before your start date, covering:
- Full induction
- Safeguarding Adults
- First Aid / Food Hygiene / Health & Safety
- Personal Care including Suppositories, Catheter and Bowel Care
- Moving and Handling with Hoist
- Medication Administering
- Physiotherapy
- Spinal Injury Awareness
All training must be completed prior to start date and is paid at £18.00 per hour.

- Previous care experience including bowel care
- Excellent standard of English verbal communication
