The role of this Personal Care Assistant:

Our personal care assistants join our client’s support team, providing reliable, essential care and support in their home. You will be employed by HomeCareDirect on behalf of the client and your focus will be to support them only. There are 2 x 16 hour roles available with both PAs working together, providing 2:1 support for our client. You will work from 4pm to 8pm, 4 days a week. Our client has funding for respite care and you would need to be flexible to do this in addition to your contracted 16 hours. This will be discussed and explained further during your telephone screening.

About the Client and Duties:

Our client is a man in his 20's who lives at home with his mum and dad. He requires support with daily tasks to lead a fulfilling and enjoyable life. He has autism, epilepsy and other health conditions that necessitate assistance to ensure his safety. While he has some understanding of his surroundings and emotions, he tends to be quiet around new people but becomes more chatty once he feels comfortable.

Our client enjoys listening to music and taking part in community activities. Your role will involve supporting him in pursuing his interests, such as visiting the cinema, bowling, shopping, dining out/people-watching. Although he is mobile, he uses a walker and wheelchair when outdoors.

He occasionally uses Makaton to communicate, so familiarity with this would be advantageous. At times, our client may display signs of frustration or anger. Experience managing challenging behaviours is desirable. It is however, essential that you have prior experience in a care role, with a background in supporting individuals with autism and learning disabilities (LD).
