We are seeking our first Software Developer to join our product team. At Home Made we are building a better way to rent, focusing on utilising technology to make renting better, safer and fairer for all. Your goal is to help upgrade and ultimately bring the rental experience for both landlords and renters into the 21st century. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining our existing systems whilst also building and scaling.

To succeed with our ambitious goals, we need excellent technical people who are excited by a challenge, and who aren’t afraid to get stuck into things, in and out of their comfort zone.

Salary: Depending on experience

Work Location: Southwark, London - we offer hybrid working for this role

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Development & Enhancement: Build new features and functionality for web applications, develop and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services, create responsive, user-friendly frontend interfaces, collaborate with team members on system architecture decisions, write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • System Maintenance & Support: Maintain and optimise existing web applications and backend services, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across the full stack, monitor system performance and implement improvements, participate in code reviews and maintain coding standards.
  • Infrastructure & Operations: Assist with basic DevOps tasks and deployment processes, support AWS infrastructure management and optimization, contribute to CI/CD pipeline improvements, help with server monitoring and maintenance.

Experience you’ll already have:

  • Frontend Development: Frontend frameworks (React, Vue, or Angular), excellent knowledge of Javascript and related FE technologies (React, Typescript, Webpack etc), HTML5, CSS3, and responsive design principles, understanding of modern build tools and workflows.
  • Backend Development: Solid experience with Node.js and server-side JavaScript, knowledge of RESTful API design and development, experience with databases (SQL and NoSQL), understanding of authentication and security best practices.
  • General: 2-3 years of experience as a Software Engineer, version control with Git, experience with testing frameworks and methodologies, understanding of agile development practices, strong problem-solving and debugging skills, collaborative mindset with strong communication skills, eagerness to learn new technologies and improve existing systems, commitment to writing maintainable, scalable code, comfortable working on both legacy systems and new development.
