The Role
A renter hasn’t been followed up, a listing has the wrong price, or a team is spending hours checking information across systems. Your role is to understand what’s going wrong and build a reliable way to fix it. You’ll create automations, integrations and internal tools that help our leasing, marketing and operations teams work more effectively. That means getting close to the people doing the work, understanding their needs and taking solutions all the way from an initial idea to something they use every day. Working directly with our Technical Lead, who sets the overall architectural direction, you’ll own implementation and delivery. You’ll scope, build, test and deploy solutions, train colleagues to use them, and keep improving them based on performance, cost and feedback. If you enjoy untangling a messy process, building something useful and seeing the difference it makes, you’ll enjoy this role.
Working with us
Home Made is a lettings proptech company on a mission to fix renting for good. We combine technology with a high-performing team to make the rental experience better, safer and fairer for renters and property owners. Our culture is built on driving change, working with integrity and making space for different perspectives. We want people to ask questions, contribute ideas and take ownership, with everyone having the opportunity to be heard. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the business and see the impact of what you build in their day-to-day work. There’s plenty to improve, room to contribute and the opportunity to help shape how we use technology as we grow.
Role and Opportunities
- Understand the problem and plan the solution: Work with teams to understand their processes, spot recurring problems and identify opportunities for automation. Turn broad requests into clear requirements, manageable scopes and practical technical designs. Agree what success looks like before building, whether that’s time saved, fewer errors, faster follow-up or better conversion. Prioritise work based on business value, effort and ongoing maintenance.
- Build tools that make a difference: Develop automations, APIs and integrations across multiple ecosystems. Join and reconcile operational data so that tools and decisions are based on reliable information. Build straightforward, user-friendly web interfaces for internal tools. Use LLM APIs where useful for tasks such as extracting information, summarising calls and drafting recommendations. Write maintainable code and contribute reusable components that make future delivery easier.
- Test, launch and help people use what you build: Test accuracy, reliability and behaviour when data is missing or systems fail. Manage deployment with appropriate monitoring and clear documentation. Train colleagues and explain how tools work, when to use them and where their limitations lie. Check adoption and understanding after launch, gathering feedback and addressing anything that gets in the way.
- Improve and maintain: Monitor performance, usage and running costs, and make improvements based on evidence. Troubleshoot failures and keep integrations reliable as systems and processes change. Measure results against the original goal and identify where further changes are needed. Review implementations, share knowledge and support less experienced colleagues.
About You
- A practical problem-solver: You enjoy understanding how things work and finding a sensible way to improve them.
- An owner: You spot problems, take action and follow through, including after a tool has launched.
- Commercially aware: You can distinguish between an interesting technical project and something that will make a meaningful difference to the business.
- A clear communicator: You’re comfortable talking to non-technical colleagues, asking questions and explaining decisions without unnecessary jargon.
- Thoughtful about the details: You know that incorrect data or an unreliable integration can create more work than it saves.
- Adaptable and collaborative: You can balance competing priorities, respond to feedback and work within an existing stack.
- Curious: You’re keen to learn, test new approaches and share what you discover.
Experience you’ll already have
- A track record of independently delivering and maintaining production software, integrations or automation in a commercial environment.
- Strong TypeScript and Node.js skills, including APIs, background jobs and integrations.
- Strong SQL skills and experience investigating and reconciling data across systems.
- Experience building straightforward web interfaces using React, Next.js or similar tools.
- Familiarity with testing, version control, deployment and monitoring.
- Sound judgement about implementation choices, trade-offs and ongoing maintenance.
Experience with Salesforce, AWS, MongoDB or LLM APIs would be useful. You don’t need to have used every tool in our stack, but you should be confident picking up unfamiliar systems.
