Overview

Apprentice Level 2 Support Worker – Gateshead, Lobley Hill Road, NE11 0DG.

Fixed term Apprenticeship of 15 months duration, full time (37.5 hpw). Core hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00, with flexibility to accommodate customer and service needs on weekends. Availability required between 07:00 and 21:00.

Salary from £10.00 to £12.21 per hour, plus an industry-recognised qualification funded by us, and attractive benefits including a health cash plan.

Typical day as an Apprentice Level 2 Support Worker

  • Support our older residents aged 65 and over to live comfortably, safely, and independently at Watergate Court.
  • Learn on the job: gain hands-on experience in adult care, working with skilled team members to develop knowledge and confidence.
  • Work closely with a mentor and report to a Deputy Manager for guidance and day-to-day support.
  • Get qualified while you work: complete an industry-recognised Level 2 qualification in Adult Care with a partner apprenticeship training provider.
  • Ongoing support and development: access to an experienced tutor, regular learning sessions, and available tools and resources.
  • Make a difference every day: assist with daily tasks, companionship, and supporting activities to improve residents’ lives.

About You

  • You are a current or previous customer of Home Group or live in a Home Group property.
  • Ideally you have GCSEs in English and maths, but these can be completed as part of your apprenticeship learning if not.
  • We’re a high-tech organisation, so you should have good IT skills.
  • A genuine interest in learning and personal and professional development – this is a learning role.

Eligibility – Who qualifies as a Home Group Customer?

  • To apply, you’ll need to meet at least one criterion:
  • You currently live in a Home Group property (as a tenant or non-tenant) or you are currently accessing a Home Group service (live-in, drop-in, or community-based).
  • You have accessed a Home Group service within the last five years.
  • You are part of a Home Group umbrella service (for example, we own the property, but another provider delivers the support, or vice versa).
  • You are a care leaver aged 16–24.

You’ll be joining our Watergate Court team, led by our Registered Manager Zeyad Ahmed, with Deputy Managers Eileen and Monika. We are a close-knit crew who value humour, good food, and a welcoming environment.

Job details

  • You will be earning a Level 2 qualification over 15 months while gaining substantial experience to launch your career.
  • Many apprentices secure a permanent role with us, with potential future opportunities.
  • You will be based at the service, working Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00. Due to service needs, you may be required to work weekends and between 07:00–21:00 to support customer activities.
  • There is built-in study time (20% of your working week) to progress toward your qualification.
  • An Enhanced DBS check is required, and costs are paid by us.
