Home Exeter Ltd is looking for an experienced Gas Engineer to join our established team. This vacancy has arisen due to a position becoming available rather than expansion, and opportunities like this don’t come up often for us - this is the first time we’ve had this role open in several years.
The role offers a good balance of work, including servicing, reactive repairs, maintenance, and regular installation work. Install jobs typically come up around once a week or every couple of weeks, so while installations are part of the role, it is not install-heavy or target-driven.
You’ll be working across boiler servicing, breakdowns, fault-finding, heating and hot water issues, and reactive plumbing repairs. Installation work will include boilers and system upgrades as required, alongside general maintenance and safety checks. Jobs are scheduled realistically, with enough time allowed to complete work properly and to a high standard. We do not overload diaries or expect engineers to rush between jobs or cut corners to hit unrealistic numbers. The expectation is quality workmanship, completed within normal working hours, rather than chasing excessive volumes of work.
Part of the role involves working on properties managed by local letting agents. This includes occasionally visiting agents’ offices to collect and return keys for access. Many engineers enjoy the variety and social side of this, but it does involve interacting with different people throughout the day and working within access arrangements.
You must be Gas Safe registered with solid plumbing and heating experience (ideally 5+ years). Strong diagnostic and repair skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently and manage your own workload. A full UK driving licence is required. We’re looking for someone professional, reliable, and comfortable dealing with customers and agents alike.
This is a full-time employed position with a company van and fuel card provided. Salary is up to £45,000 per year, depending on experience. There is no weekend working and no expectation of overtime. We place a strong emphasis on work–life balance, and engineers are rarely required to work beyond their contracted hours. The role is structured around sensible scheduling and finishing on time.
This role suits engineers who enjoy variety in their work - a mix of servicing, fault-finding, repairs, installations, and some interaction with letting agents and customers. If you like a role that isn’t the same four walls every day and want a long-term position within a stable, well-run local company, this could be a great fit.
Most of our work is local to Exeter and the surrounding area, and our office is based in Exeter. NVQ Level 2 and Gas Safe registration are required, along with good spoken and written English. A full UK driving licence is essential. Unvented qualifications are beneficial but not essential.
Applicants will be asked about Gas Safe registration, unvented qualifications, years of experience, diagnostic and repair experience, any additional skills and availability to start.
