About the role
We are seeking a Grants & Financial Planning Lead to play a central role in strengthening our financial sustainability and confidence in funding decisions. This is a hybrid role combining:
- Grant funding and bid development (external-facing)
- Financial planning, reporting and insight (internal-facing)
You will help ensure that we not only secure funding effectively, but also plan and manage it with clarity, financial discipline, and forward-looking insight. As a small and growing organisation, this is a hands-on role where you will help build practical approaches from the ground up.
Key responsibilities
- Grant funding, bid development & costing
- Lead the development of high-quality grant submissions
- Translate programme concepts into clear, evidence-based funding proposals
- Develop and maintain costing frameworks for bids and programmes
- Build robust financial models aligned to delivery plans and funding requirements
- Support financial planning for new bids and funding opportunities
- Funding landscape & pipeline
- Develop an evidence-based view of the funding and social finance landscape
- Identify key stakeholders and routes to funding
- Translate insight into a prioritised pipeline of funding opportunities
- Support decisions on which opportunities to pursue
- Funding compliance & alignment
- Ensure funding is used in line with grant conditions and delivery plans
- Translate funding agreements into clear financial and operational guidance
- Identify and flag risks where plans and funding requirements diverge
- Financial planning & reporting
- Support organisational budgeting and reforecasting
- Develop financial views of programmes, including spend profiles and scenarios
- Lead the development of clear, structured financial reporting
- Ensure reporting supports decision-making and reflects performance, commitments and risks
- Financial insight & delivery alignment
- Provide forward-looking financial analysis, including scenario modelling
- Work with delivery leads to ensure plans are financially viable and aligned to funding
- Identify gaps, pressures, and trade-offs early
- Governance & oversight
- Maintain visibility of grant utilisation, commitments and risks
- Support reporting to Board and Audit & Risk Committee
- Contribute to strengthening financial governance as the organisation evolves
About you
Essential
- Experience in grant funding / bid development and financial planning, supported by practical accounting experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Experience working with or producing management accounts, budgets or forecasts
- Strong financial modelling and costing capability
- Understanding of funding compliance and financial controls
- Ability to connect financial planning with operational delivery
- Comfortable working in a small, evolving organisation with ambiguity
Desirable
- Experience with local authority or public sector funding
- Experience working across multi-stakeholder programmes (e.g. partnerships or consortia)
- Experience in not-for-profit or charities
