An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Workshop Manager to join a well-established commercial vehicle and temperature-controlled fleet business based in Uxbridge. This role is ideal for a hands-on and driven leader with strong workshop, maintenance, and fleet management experience within the HGV, LCV, or rental sector. You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of a busy workshop operation, managing a mixed fleet of HGVs, LCVs, trailers, and refrigerated units, ensuring maximum vehicle uptime, workshop efficiency, and full compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily workshop operation, ensuring all servicing, repairs, and inspections are completed efficiently
- Manage and support a team of technicians, apprentices, and workshop support staff
- Plan and schedule maintenance, MOT preparation, inspections, and repairs to minimise vehicle downtime
- Ensure all vehicles, trailers, and refrigeration units are maintained to the highest safety and legal standards
- Monitor workshop productivity, labour efficiency, and parts usage to achieve performance targets
- Maintain compliance with Health & Safety, DVSA, and operator licence requirements
- Manage breakdown response and coordinate urgent repair work when required
- Control workshop costs, budgets, and stock management
- Support recruitment, training, and development of workshop staff
- Work closely with senior management to improve workshop processes and overall fleet performance
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Workshop Manager, HGV Workshop Controller, Fleet Maintenance Manager, or similar within the commercial vehicle sector
- Strong technical knowledge of HGVs, LCVs, trailers, and ideally refrigerated vehicles
- Proven experience managing workshop teams and driving performance
- Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance planning, compliance, and workshop operations
- Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Good commercial awareness with strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
- IRTEC qualification or relevant engineering qualifications would be advantageous but not essential
