Are you an experienced Plant Engineer looking for a field‑based role where no two days are the same?

We are looking for a skilled Mobile Plant Fitter / Field Service Engineer to join a growing service team covering the Preston area.

Working from home, you'll travel directly to customer sites carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs on a wide range of construction plant machinery.

You'll also occasionally work from the local depot, supporting workshop activities when required.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys working independently, solving technical problems, and delivering outstanding customer service.

The Role

As a Mobile Plant Fitter, your responsibilities will include

  • Diagnosing faults, servicing and repairing construction plant equipment at customer sites.
  • Carrying out planned maintenance and inspections to manufacturer standards.
  • Completing repairs efficiently while maintaining high levels of quality and safety.
  • Using electronic diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Completing job sheets, service reports and timesheets accurately using a tablet or mobile device.
  • Ordering parts and liaising with the parts department to minimise machine downtime.
  • Working closely with the Service Supervisor to manage workloads and customer expectations.
  • Carrying out workshop‑based repairs when required.
  • Ensuring all work complies with health and safety regulations and manufacturer specifications.

About You

We’re looking for someone with

  • Experience repairing and maintaining construction plant machinery.
  • A recognised qualification such as NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent in Plant Maintenance or Heavy Vehicle Engineering.

• Strong knowledge of

  • Diesel engines
  • Hydraulics
  • Electrical systems
  • Transmissions
  • Electronic diagnostics and fault finding
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Good IT skills for completing digital paperwork.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Experience working on telehandlers or similar plant equipment would be advantageous but is not essential.
