The Role
As a Field Service Engineer, you will
- Service, maintain and repair construction plant machinery at customer sites.
- Attend machine breakdowns, diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs.
- Perform planned preventative maintenance and inspections.
- Use electronic diagnostic equipment to identify electrical and mechanical faults.
- Complete digital job sheets, service reports and timesheets accurately.
- Order parts efficiently and liaise with the parts department to minimise equipment downtime.
- Work closely with the Service Supervisor to deliver exceptional customer support.
- Assist with the training and mentoring of apprentice engineers.
- Carry out workshop-based repairs when required.
- Ensure all repairs are completed safely and in line with manufacturer specifications and health‑& safety standards.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have
- A recognised engineering qualification such as NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent in Construction Plant Maintenance, Heavy Vehicle (HGV), Light Vehicle, Agricultural Engineering, or a similar mechanical engineering discipline.
- Experience working on construction plant, heavy equipment or similar machinery.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, transmissions, electronic diagnostics and fault finding.
- Excellent fault‑finding and problem‑solving abilities.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Good IT skills for completing digital service documentation.
- A positive attitude with the ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- A full UK driving licence.
