Job Description

HGV Workshop Manager Location: Slough\\nSalary: £50,000 per annum + Company Car\\nEmployment Type: Full-Time, Permanent\\n Overview We are seeking an experienced HGV Workshop Manager to oversee all maintenance, servicing, and repair activities for our heavy goods vehicle fleet. The successful candidate will lead a team of HGV technicians, ensure compliance with DVSA standards, and maintain the highest levels of vehicle uptime and safety.\\n Key Responsibilities Workshop Operations\\nManage the daily running of the HGV workshop, ensuring efficient and safe working practices.\\nSchedule and allocate work to HGV technicians to maximise productivity and minimise vehicle downtime.\\nOversee all HGV servicing, inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance.\\nEnsure workshop tools, equipment, and diagnostic systems are maintained, safe, and calibrated.HGV Fleet Compliance\\nEnsure all HGVs meet Operator Licence and DVSA standards at all times.\\nMaintain accurate records of inspections, MOTs, defect rectification, and service history.\\nConduct regular compliance audits and ensure strict adherence to maintenance intervals.\\nSupport the Transport Manager in ensuring full legal compliance relating to roadworthiness.Team Management\\nLead, develop, and support a team of HGV technicians and apprentices.\\nDeliver toolbox talks, technical training, performance reviews, and mentoring.\\nManage recruitment, shift allocation, and workshop staffing levels.\\nPromote a positive culture around safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.Parts & Inventory Control\\nOversee ordering, stock levels, and cost control of HGV parts and consumables.\\nBuild strong relationships with HGV parts suppliers and negotiate favourable rates.\\nEnsure the correct parts are available for scheduled and unscheduled work.Performance, Reporting & Communication\\nTrack and report on workshop KPIs, including breakdowns, repairs, MOT pass rates, and downtime.\\nWork closely with operations teams to prioritise vehicle repairs and maintain fleet availability.\\nIdentify and implement improvements to workshop processes and efficiency.Requirements Essential:\\nProven experience as an HGV Workshop Manager, Supervisor, or Senior HGV Technician.\\nStrong mechanical knowledge of HGVs (Euro 5/6, diagnostics, hydraulics, electrical systems).\\nThorough understanding of DVSA regulations, PMI schedules, roadworthiness, and Operator Licence compliance.\\nExcellent planning, organisation, and leadership skills.\\nConfident in using workshop or fleet management systems.\\nFull UK driving licence (HGV Class 1 or 2 is a strong advantage).Desirable:\\nNVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance.\\nIRTEC accreditation or similar HGV-specific qualifications.\\nExperience managing a mixed HGV fleet (artics, rigids, trailers).Benefits\\n£50,000 annual salary\\nCompany car\\nPension scheme\\n25 days holiday + bank holidays\\nTraining and development opportunities\\nOptional additional company benefitsHow to Apply: If you are a motivated and experienced professional looking to take the next step in your career, we would love to hear from you.
