About the Role
We are seeking a highly capable and strategic Fleet Manager to lead the operational and compliance performance of a national fleet, including LGVs, vans, tractor units, and specialist vehicles. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer and working closely with the Director of Corporate Stewardship, this role is pivotal in driving compliance excellence, cost-efficient fleet management, and a forward-looking approach to low-emissions transport. This hybrid role combines home working with regular travel to 14 UK sites, ideally suited for candidates based in or near the Midlands.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop the Fleet and Driver Compliance Team.
- Promote and embed a strong safety culture across all operations.
- Chair monthly fleet calls and produce executive fleet compliance board packs.
- Oversee insurance renewals, accident and incident investigations, and implement risk mitigation measures.
- Take full ownership of fleet maintenance budgets and capital expenditure planning.
- Manage procurement of vehicles, tyres, and maintenance contracts.
- Develop and standardise vehicle specifications to enhance utilisation and efficiency.
- Ensure industry-leading O-Licence compliance through MOT success rates and roadside performance.
- Lead on driver telematics to monitor and improve driver behaviour.
- Conduct internal and external audits on maintenance standards and associated costs.
- Collaborate with Depot Managers, General Managers, and departmental heads to align fleet operations.
- Contribute to the organisation’s ESG targets through low-emission vehicle and fuel initiatives (e.g., EV, HVO, hydrogen).
Essential Qualifications
- Transport Manager CPC
- Full Category B Driving Licence or higher
Required Skills and Experience
- Strategic fleet management experience across multi-site operations
- Strong record of delivering vehicle and driver compliance in regulated sectors
- Thorough understanding of Road Transport Operator Regulations, ADR, and relevant legislation
- Experience with vacuum tanker and specialist fleet operations
- Knowledge of vehicle telematics, PPM, and PMI systems
- Proven capability in managing fleet insurance and leading investigations
