Workshop Team Leader / Workflow Specialist

I am recruiting on behalf of my client for an experienced Workshop Team Leader / Workflow Specialist to oversee the daily operations of an Aircraft Wheels and Brakes workshop. This position combines hands-on technical leadership with production scheduling, workflow optimisation and responsibility for maintaining high standards of aviation regulatory compliance.

The successful Workshop Team Leader / Workflow Specialist will lead a team of technicians while coordinating the movement of components through the workshop, with a strong focus on reducing turnaround times, maximising output and ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with the relevant aviation standards.

As the Workshop Team Leader / Workflow Specialist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning daily and weekly workshop activities based on incoming asset backlogs and customer priorities.
  • Monitoring components through cleaning, NDT, machining, inspection and final assembly.
  • Identifying and resolving workflow bottlenecks to improve component turnaround times.
  • Driving workshop KPIs with a focus on TAT reduction and increased output.
  • Coordinating with stores to ensure parts, repair kits and consumables are available ahead of production.
  • Leading, motivating, challenging and allocating work to mechanics, inspectors and support staff.
  • Maintaining strong EHS and 5S standards throughout the workshop.
  • Identifying skills gaps, coordinating technical training and signing off technician competency matrices.
  • Ensuring digital and paper maintenance release tags, teardown reports and logbooks are completed accurately.
  • Ensuring work is carried out in accordance with current Component Maintenance Manuals and applicable airworthiness directives.
  • Overseeing the tracking and calibration of specialist tooling, torque wrenches and inflation cages.
  • Supporting internal quality teams and external aviation authorities during workshop audits and inspections.

For this Workshop Team Leader / Workflow Specialist position, I am looking for candidates who ideally have:

  • 3-5 years' experience within an aviation MRO environment, specifically involving aircraft wheels, brakes or landing gear components.
  • 1-2 years' experience within a Team Leader, Supervisor or Production Planning position.
  • Strong working knowledge of EASA Part 145, FAA Part 145 or local CAA regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement principles within a workshop environment.
  • Experience using aviation ERP/MRO systems such as Quantum, AMOS or SAP.
  • Competence using Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to reallocate resources effectively when dealing with parts delays or staffing shortages.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly around aviation safety, quality and documentation.
  • The ability to work effectively within a manual workshop environment, including lifting components and standing for extended periods.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Workshop Team Leader / Workflow Specialist who understands the demands of an aviation MRO environment and can balance people leadership with effective production planning and regulatory compliance.
