This role is with a specialist engineering business in Ringwood, working across test, measurement and automation equipment. The Electronic Design Engineer will take a lead technical role on projects, producing electrical and electronic design specifications, supporting work package flow-down, checking technical documentation and ensuring designs are ready for manufacture.

The role includes hands-on design, technical checking, project support, customer communication and guidance for less senior engineers. The Electronic Design Engineer will also support quotation activity, manufacturing readiness, testing and technical documentation, so this role needs someone who is accurate, methodical and comfortable working across several projects at once.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Generate electrical and electronic design specifications for projects and work packages
  • Act as lead technical engineer on assigned projects, reporting progress to Project Managers
  • Prepare technical cost estimates to support quotation activity
  • Clarify customer requirements and translate them into practical design specifications
  • Produce and check wiring schedules, schematics, electrical drawings and electronic documentation
  • Design analogue and digital interface circuits for test and automation applications
  • Design PCBs where required
  • Research and source specialist components or equipment when needed
  • Check and sign off manufacturing drawing packs before build
  • Work with manufacturing teams to answer technical questions during assembly and test
  • Run and supervise testing activity where required
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing with customers when needed
  • Produce product reference documentation, handbooks and supporting technical files
  • Maintain drawing records and keep design information accurate and controlled
  • Keep up to date with relevant industry and external design standards
  • Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues and customers

What they’re looking for:

  • Formal qualification in electronic, electrical or related engineering discipline
  • At least 5 years’ experience in electrical or electronic design at design/implementation level
  • Experience designing test equipment
  • Experience designing analogue and digital interface circuits
  • Able to produce accurate wiring schedules, schematics and design documentation
  • Confident supporting products from concept through to manufacture, testing and acceptance
  • Comfortable checking technical information produced by others
  • Able to communicate clearly with customers, project teams, engineers and manufacturing colleagues
  • Accurate, methodical and able to anticipate problems before they affect delivery
  • Able to meet BPSS requirements

Desirable:

  • 18th Edition qualification
  • Experience in power engineering
  • Experience with National Instruments hardware or software
  • PCB design experience
  • Previous experience with test, measurement, automation or bespoke equipment design
  • Experience supporting FAT, SAT or customer acceptance testing

What’s on offer:

  • Salary: £55,000 – £65,000
  • A senior-level role with ownership across concept design, detailed documentation, technical checking and product realisation.
  • The chance to work on varied test, measurement and automation projects rather than repetitive product updates.
  • A technical environment where the Electronic Design Engineer can influence design quality, manufacturing readiness and successful project delivery.
