I am recruiting on behalf of my client for a Product Support Engineer to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing business supplying robust, high-quality mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment into the defence sector. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with a strong manufacturing or mechanical engineering background who enjoys solving production challenges, improving manufacturing processes and supporting products throughout their operational lifecycle.

As a Product Support Engineer, you will become a key member of the Production Engineering team, acting as the technical link between Design Engineering and Manufacturing. You will spend your time supporting production, investigating engineering issues, implementing product improvements and ensuring products remain efficient to manufacture while meeting demanding quality standards. This is a manufacturing-focused engineering position rather than a design role.

The successful Product Support Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Providing hands-on engineering support to manufacturing and assembly teams.
  • Investigating production and product issues using structured root cause analysis.
  • Raising and implementing Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to improve manufacturability and product reliability.
  • Supporting Engineering Helpdesk requests and resolving day-to-day production engineering queries.
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs, eliminate recurring issues and improve product quality.
  • Working closely with Mechanical Design, Production, Quality and Supply Chain teams to introduce engineering improvements.
  • Reviewing mechanical assemblies and manufacturing processes to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Producing and maintaining manufacturing documentation, engineering instructions and technical support information.
  • Participating in engineering reviews and supporting new product introduction into manufacturing.
  • Driving standardisation and best practice across manufacturing processes.

To be successful you will ideally have:

  • Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least five years' experience within manufacturing engineering, production engineering or mechanical product support.
  • Experience supporting the manufacture of mechanical or electro-mechanical products.
  • Good understanding of machining, fabrication, mechanical assembly or precision manufacturing processes.
  • Experience managing engineering changes and supporting products within a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks or CREO.
  • Strong fault-finding, analytical and root cause investigation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work closely alongside production and engineering teams.
  • Eligibility to obtain SC Clearance.

In return, you will join a collaborative Production Engineering team where you will play an important role in improving mechanical products, supporting manufacturing operations and driving continuous improvement across the business. This is an opportunity for a Product Support Engineer who enjoys being on the shop floor, working closely with production teams and making tangible engineering improvements that directly impact quality, reliability and manufacturing performance.

If you are an experienced Product Support Engineer with a mechanical manufacturing background and are looking for your next challenge, I would be delighted to discuss the opportunity with you.
