An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a growing design and manufacturing business specialising in precision rotary mechanisms for surveillance and fire-control solutions in the defence and high-technology sectors. The role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys taking ownership of concepts and turning them into robust, manufacturable products for use in harsh environments.
The Role
- Design innovative electro-mechanical mechanisms and precision machinery from concept through to production.
- Perform classical engineering analysis (stress, fatigue, vibration), using both hand calculations and computer-based simulation tools.
- Produce detailed engineering and assembly drawings for manufacture and support verification testing in the lab to ensure designs meet specifications.
- Prepare and contribute to engineering reports, including new product design justifications and failure investigations.
- Work closely with electronics, control and drive engineers to integrate multi-discipline systems into complete equipment solutions.
- Provide engineering support to production, test and field service teams, and assist sales with technical input for bids and quotations.
- Create and develop 3D CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks.
Skills & Experience
- 2+ years’ experience in a mechanical engineering role.
- Proven track record designing complex mechanisms and structures for harsh environments (ideally defence or similarly demanding sectors).
- Experience taking systems from original specification and concept through to production release.
- Ability to analyse and design components such as gear drives, bearings and motor interfaces.
- Good understanding of machining, casting, fabrication and moulding manufacturing processes.
- Proficient user of SolidWorks (3D CAD).
