I am recruiting on behalf of my client for an experienced HSE Manager to join their team based at Osprey Quay in Portland, Dorset. This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished HSE Manager to take ownership of the Health, Safety and Environmental function across a diverse engineering business operating within manufacturing, warehouse, office and project environments.
The successful HSE Manager will play a key role in maintaining and developing the company's Integrated Management System (IMS), driving continuous improvement, ensuring legislative compliance and supporting both UK and overseas project operations. As the successful HSE Manager, you will lead the development of a proactive safety culture while providing expert guidance across all areas of the business. You will work closely with managers, project teams and operational departments to ensure Health, Safety and Environmental standards remain at the highest level.
The HSE Manager will be responsible for:
- Leading, maintaining and continuously improving Health, Safety and Environmental systems across office, engineering, manufacturing, warehouse and project environments.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant UK Health & Safety legislation including HSWA, MHSWR, CDM Regulations, COSHH, PUWER and LOLER.
- Maintaining and developing management systems aligned with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Providing competent HSE advice and guidance to managers, supervisors and employees.
- Leading and supporting risk assessments across operational activities and project environments.
- Developing and reviewing Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS) and safe systems of work.
- Supporting project teams with Health, Safety and Environmental risks, including overseas operations where required.
- Managing contractor Health, Safety and Environmental compliance activities.
- Investigating incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
- Managing RIDDOR reporting, root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Developing and delivering the annual Health, Safety and Environmental audit programme.
- Conducting internal audits and supporting external certification audits.
- Maintaining the HSE Non-Conformance Register and driving timely corrective actions.
- Delivering HSE inductions, awareness training and supporting ongoing employee competence.
- Coordinating emergency response planning, drills and emergency preparedness activities.
- Maintaining HSE-related Integrated Management System documentation and legislative compliance registers.
- Producing regular HSE performance reports and chairing Health & Safety meetings.
To be considered for this HSE Manager position you will ideally have:
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor qualification, or demonstrable auditing experience covering ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Previous experience within engineering, manufacturing, construction or another technical environment.
- Excellent knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- Strong experience producing and implementing risk assessments, RAMS and safe systems of work.
- Proven internal auditing and compliance management experience.
- Excellent reporting, record keeping and database management skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Desirable experience includes:
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
- NEBOSH Fire Certificate.
- NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate.
- Experience implementing and maintaining ISO management systems.
- Experience within component manufacturing, assembly or final product inspection environments.
