We are seeking a Mechanical Technician to join a leading design and manufacturing business supporting surveillance and defence applications. This is a hands-on workshop-based role focused on prototype and production assembly, modification work, and supporting the build of high-quality technical products. The successful candidate will work from engineering drawings and procedures to assemble machines, carry out modifications, manufacture simple brackets and tooling, and support the wider engineering and production team to resolve build issues. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong practical workshop experience who takes pride in accuracy, quality, and safe working practices.
Key responsibilities
- Prototype and production assembly of machines to engineering drawings and procedures.
- Document all modifications during the build process and complete change request forms.
- Liaise with production control when kits are incomplete.
- Carry out modifications to existing parts using hand tools and basic machine tools such as drills, lathes, and mills.
- Manufacture simple brackets, mounting plates, and tooling.
- Check all work meets quality and technical standards.
- Communicate effectively with the engineering team to resolve build issues.
- Follow all health and safety regulations and company guidelines.
- Work in line with procedures set out in the Quality Manual.
- Keep all work-related documentation accurate and up to date.
- Maintain a clean, orderly workshop and good 6S standards.
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained and support equipment evaluation where required.
- Provide technical assistance to mechanical fitters where needed.
