I am recruiting on behalf of my client for an experienced HSE Manager to join their team at Osprey Quay in Portland, Dorset. This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished HSE Manager to lead and develop the Health, Safety and Environmental function across a diverse engineering business operating within manufacturing, warehouse, office and project environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead, maintain and continuously improve Health, Safety and Environmental systems across office, engineering, manufacturing, warehouse and project environments.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant UK Health & Safety legislation including HSWA, MHSWR, CDM Regulations, COSHH, PUWER and LOLER.
- Maintain and develop management systems aligned with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Provide competent HSE advice and guidance to managers, supervisors and employees.
- Lead and support risk assessments across operational activities and project environments.
- Develop and review Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS) and safe systems of work.
- Support project teams with Health, Safety and Environmental risks, including overseas operations where required.
- Manage contractor Health, Safety and Environmental compliance activities.
- Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
- Manage RIDDOR reporting, root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver the annual Health, Safety and Environmental audit programme.
- Conduct internal audits and support external certification audits.
- Maintain the HSE Non‑Conformance Register and drive timely corrective actions.
- Deliver HSE inductions, awareness training and support ongoing employee competence.
- Coordinate emergency response planning, drills and emergency preparedness activities.
- Maintain HSE‑related Integrated Management System documentation and legislative compliance registers.
- Produce regular HSE performance reports and chair Health & Safety meetings.
Required Qualifications
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor qualification, or demonstrable auditing experience covering ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Previous experience within engineering, manufacturing, construction or another technical environment.
- Excellent knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- Strong experience producing and implementing risk assessments, RAMS and safe systems of work.
- Proven internal auditing and compliance management experience.
- Excellent reporting, record keeping and database management skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Desirable Experience
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
- NEBOSH Fire Certificate.
- NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate.
- Experience implementing and maintaining ISO management systems.
- Experience within component manufacturing, assembly or final product inspection environments.
