Holt Engineering is representing a leading technology organisation operating within the cyber security, information assurance and secure communications sectors. Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, our client is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the development of innovative, high-assurance products used within secure and mission-critical environments.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex multidisciplinary projects involving hardware, software, FPGA and mechanical engineering teams, helping to deliver cutting-edge technology solutions from concept through to deployment.

The Role

As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in defining and delivering technical solutions across multiple product development programmes. Working closely with engineering teams and project stakeholders, you will help translate customer requirements into robust system architectures and product designs. The role combines technical leadership, systems engineering and product development, offering exposure across the entire engineering lifecycle. You will also contribute to customer proposals, technical planning and solution development activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support systems engineering activities across product development projects.
  • Capture, analyse and manage technical requirements across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Define system architectures and technical solutions that meet customer and programme requirements.
  • Work closely with hardware, software, FPGA and mechanical engineering teams to ensure coherent system design.
  • Support product development from initial concept through design, integration, verification and validation.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure successful delivery against cost, schedule and performance objectives.
  • Participate in customer discussions to clarify requirements and ensure solutions meet operational needs.
  • Produce clear and concise technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical support for bids, proposals and future business opportunities.

Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years' industrial experience in a relevant engineering environment.
  • Experience working across the systems engineering lifecycle, including:
    • Requirements management
    • System architecture and design
    • Verification and validation
    • Product development processes
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering environments.
  • Technical expertise in at least one engineering discipline, with a broad appreciation of others.
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Sole British nationality and the ability to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).

Desirable Skills

  • Experience using DOORS or similar requirements management tools.
  • Knowledge of systems modelling languages such as UML or SysML.
  • Experience with systems engineering techniques including use case analysis and trade studies.
  • Experience supporting technical bids, proposals and project estimation activities.
  • Understanding of mechanical integration and environmental qualification processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage complexity, uncertainty and competing technical priorities.
  • Demonstrable systems-thinking approach and ability to identify and resolve technical risks.
