Overview:

This role is with an established engineering business in Poole, supporting electrical design and development activity across complex technical products. The position suits someone with strong electrical or electronic design experience who can work accurately, support project delivery and provide technical input across design, manufacture and verification.
Responsibilities:
- Undertake electrical design activity for new and existing products
- Produce concept designs and detailed design information for project and product work
- Ensure designs meet customer, legislative, quality, programme and cost requirements
- Work in line with internal design control procedures and engineering standards
- Support design verification, development, manufacture and technical release activity
- Provide guidance to engineers and other colleagues on electrical design matters
- Maintain a strong understanding of relevant electrical technology, products and design practice
- Provide technical support for new business activity and prepare supporting documentation
- Support pricing and quotation activity with estimated cost information where required
- Report on technical progress, resource use and project design activity
- Identify and support improvements to design procedures, efficiency, safety and cost
- Work closely with project, engineering, manufacturing and wider business teams
- Support work at the Poole site and occasionally other locations where required
What they’re looking for:
- Electrical or electronic design experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment
- Around 5 years’ relevant industry experience in electrical/electronic design
- Engineering Degree, HNC or HND in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of electrical or electronic CAD software
- Able to produce accurate design information and technical documentation
- Understanding of design control, product development and manufacturing requirements
- Confident working to customer requirements, internal procedures and relevant standards
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across engineering and wider business teams
- Analytical, structured and organised approach to technical work
- Self-motivated, flexible and able to manage work across multiple priorities
Desirable:
- Professional registration such as IENG, or working towards it
- MRP system experience
- Experience supporting cost estimates, quotations or technical input for new business
- Background with rugged, complex or safety-conscious engineered products
- Experience providing technical guidance or mentoring to other engineers
- Strong presentation skills and confidence communicating with people at different levels
