This role is with an established precision engineering business in Weymouth, working across a wide range of customer projects and manufacturing processes. The Planning and Estimating Engineer will review technical drawings, assess customer requirements, estimate manufacturing costs and create practical routings to support efficient production.
The role needs someone who can look at a drawing, understand how the part should be made, assess the likely machining or fabrication route, and provide realistic estimating information for the business. Previous planning or estimating experience would be useful, but strong practical machining knowledge is the key requirement.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Review customer drawings, specifications and technical requirements
- Assess manufacturability, process requirements and potential production routes
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for components and assemblies
- Plan manufacturing routings across machining, fabrication and related processes
- Work with production teams to confirm practical methods, timings and requirements
- Support quotation activity with accurate technical and cost information
- Liaise with internal departments to resolve drawing, material or process questions
- Help ensure estimates and routings are realistic, efficient and aligned to capability
- Support customer requirements from initial enquiry through to production handover
- Maintain accurate planning and estimating information for future reference
