Job description

Holt Engineering is working with a growing organisation within the EV infrastructure sector to recruit an Electrical Field Service Engineer responsible for the commissioning, maintenance and repair of AC, Rapid DC and High-Power EV charging systems across customer sites throughout the UK. This role is ideal for a qualified electrical engineer with strong commercial or industrial installation and maintenance experience, looking to work within a fast-growing and technically progressive environment supporting critical EV charging infrastructure.

The successful candidate will carry out commissioning, fault-finding, preventive maintenance and technical support activities on a range of EV charging systems while ensuring high levels of safety, performance and customer satisfaction. The position involves a mix of field-based electrical, mechanical and software troubleshooting, working independently across a variety of environments including outdoor sites and confined spaces. Candidates should be comfortable interpreting electrical schematics, using diagnostic test equipment and working within SLA-driven service environments.

Essential

  • Level 3 Electrical Qualification (e.g. City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • AM2 certification.
  • Minimum 3 years’ proven hands-on experience in commercial or industrial electrical installations or maintenance.
  • BS7671 – IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition).
  • City & Guilds 2391-52 Inspection & Testing.
  • Valid JIB Gold Card.
  • Experience working under SLA-driven environments.
  • Familiarity with test and measurement equipment such as multimeters and voltage testers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and repair technical issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer interaction.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while travelling between client sites.
  • Valid UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a field service role, preferably in EV charging, renewable energy, or power electronics.
  • EV charging station certification or manufacturer-specific training.
  • Hands-on experience commissioning, maintaining, or repairing Rapid DC, Ultra and HPC EV chargers.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Understanding of analogue & digital electronics and components.
  • Strong awareness of electrical hazards and site H&S requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the Service Coordination and Operations teams to ensure accurate job completion data and timely follow-up on service reports.
  • Commission and configure AC and Rapid DC chargers at client sites.
  • Conduct initial set up and testing to ensure correct operation and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with the project management and installation teams to ensure seamless integration of charging stations with client infrastructure.
  • Maintain company assets, tools, and test equipment in good working order and report any defects immediately.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on EV charging stations to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, including electrical, mechanical and software-related problems.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests, firmware updates and calibration of EV chargers as necessary.
  • Replace faulty components and occasionally entire AC chargers. Ensure that all repairs are completed in accordance with manufacture guidelines.
  • Provide on-site technical support and training to clients on the use and operation of EV chargers.
  • Respond to service requests promptly and maintain effective communication with clients to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Document all service activities, including repairs, maintenance and customer interactions in the service management system.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies while working in the field.
  • Ensure compliance with local electrical codes and standards during commissioning and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in regular safety training and certifications as required.
