We are recruiting on behalf of a leading UK transport operator for a hands-on Workshop Supervisor to oversee a busy engineering team within their bus garage. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic workshop, enjoys problem-solving, and can balance technical responsibilities with team leadership.
Key Responsibilities of the HGV Workshop Supervisor:- Lead, support, and motivate a team of HGV/PSV Technicians and Fitters within the workshop.
- Carry out hands-on maintenance, servicing, and repair of HGVs/PSVs as required.
- Ensure all vehicles are maintained to DVSA standards and operators licence requirements.
- Allocate workloads, monitor productivity, and support technicians with technical queries.
- Oversee defect management, vehicle diagnostics, and repair quality checks.
- Maintain accurate workshop records and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
- Liaise with engineering management regarding fleet performance and maintenance planning.
- Support the implementation of continuous improvement across the workshop.
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
- Proven experience as an HGV/PSV Technician, preferably with exposure to supervisory or shift-leading duties.
- Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to carry out mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic repairs.
- In-depth knowledge of workshop safety, DVSA standards, and fleet maintenance processes.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-moving depot environment.
- Full UK Driving Licence essential; PCV licence desirable (training may be provided).
