General Assistant – Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital School
Location: Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital, Clifton, Bristol
Pay Rate: £13.08 per hour
Hours: 20 hours per week – 10:30am – 2:30pm, 5 out of 7 days (term time only)

About The Role
We are looking for a reliable and organised General Assistant to join our busy catering team at Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital School. In this essential support role you will assist with a variety of kitchen and service duties, including basic food preparation, maintaining cleanliness in kitchen and service areas, and helping with the set‑up and delivery of meals. You’ll collaborate closely with the catering team to ensure smooth and efficient daily food service operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with setting up and serving meals to pupils and staff
- Ensure kitchen, dining, and service areas are clean, tidy, and hygienic at all times
- Wash up crockery, utensils, and kitchen equipment as required
- Follow all food hygiene, health and safety, and company procedures
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a friendly, helpful attitude
- Support hospitality events as required (e.g. parent evenings, school functions)
- Work as part of a team to ensure smooth, efficient service
- Carry out other duties as reasonably requested by the Catering Manager
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a catering or cleaning environment (desirable but not essential)
- Basic understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety practices
- Level 1 Food Hygiene Certificate (can be provided during training)
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work efficiently and follow instructions
- Reliable, punctual, and professional in appearance and attitude
- Positive, can‑do approach to work
- Physically able to be on your feet for extended periods and carry out manual tasks
- Willingness to learn and adapt to a busy school environment
