We currently have an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, dedicated plant operator to join our small Woodyard team at Workington Mill. Joining us on a full-time, permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary and become part of our welcoming team.

Your future challenge: We are looking for a hardworking, dedicated plant operator to join our small Woodyard team. It is essential that the successful candidate is self-motivated, can operate as part of a team, and work well alone when required.

The function of the Woodyard is to provide fuel and fibre to the CHP plant and pulp mill. Specifically, you will operate woodyard vehicles to transport logs and chipped material, operate computerised systems to control the processes and apply plant isolations/issue permits of work.

Working under the Woodyard Team Leaders' instruction, the Operators will:

  • Communicate effectively with team members and management
  • Work safely whilst adhering to health, safety and environmental risk assessments, procedures, and production standards
  • Offload wagons, maintain a continuous supply of material to chippers, carry out duties to ensure all areas of the plant are maintained and run smoothly
  • Operate/monitor plant via control system and react to alarms/plant issues accordingly
  • Maintain the plant in a safe condition through observation and inspection, and report faults using the mill reporting system
  • Prepare/issue/close off permits
  • Prepare/isolate & release plant in a safe condition ready for maintenance activities
  • Complete certified training for all required mandatory tasks within the role

The successful Woodyard operator will possess:

  • A valid driving license
  • GCSE Grade 4 or above in English, Maths and Science/ICT or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Computer literacy skills
  • The ability to work comfortably at height

In addition to this, the following competency is also desired:

  • Practical experience of operating heavy plant (i.e., articulated log handler/wheeled loading shovel).
