We support older people and those with dementia in our residential homes – Heathside (37 beds) and The Mews (25 beds). Each offers a different living experience yet collaborates on many activities and outings. Our approach is person‑centred and bespoke, with a high level of care tailored to individual needs.

A Day in the Life of an Elderly & Dementia Support Worker:

  • Your days involve person‑centred planning and a wide range of assistance – from personal care to companionship.
  • You celebrate life histories, support individuals in activities they enjoy, and create a safe and comforting environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentor new colleagues during induction.
  • Participate in supervision, observation and appraisal.
  • Provide accurate written reports and effective communication.
  • Follow WCL financial procedures.
  • Act in line with environmental and sustainability principles.
  • Maintain a caring environment aligned with best practice, guidance and legislation.
  • Deliver high‑quality care according to support plans and policy.
  • Seek and share the views and preferences of those we support.
  • Promote high satisfaction among residents, families, colleagues and commissioners.
  • Support the Service Manager with complaints and concerns following policy.
  • Understand and implement safeguarding procedures.

Safeguarding:

  • Complete Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults and Mental Capacity Act training.
  • Recognise and report safeguarding concerns appropriately.

Health and Safety:

  • Take reasonable care of own and others’ health and safety.
  • Cooperate with the employer to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Avoid misuse of equipment or systems for safety.
  • Support the Service Manager in maintaining a safe environment.

Data Protection:

  • Respect confidentiality in line with Data Protection Act 2018 and ISO 27001.
  • Use and share information only with authorised people and for authorised purposes.

Person Specification:

  • A recognised health or social care qualification.
  • Evidence of desire to develop professionally.
  • Willingness and ability to learn.
  • Experience supporting people with disabilities, older people, dementia or mental health needs.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Handle basic numerical data, including simple financial information.
  • Use Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook).
  • Use WCL transport or own transport when required.
  • Understanding of fairness and valuing diversity.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable adults and recognising concerns.
