With vessels at sea exchanging critical information between headquarters, ports, suppliers, and customers, fast, reliable, and robust satellite communications are paramount.
As a Technical Service Engineer, you will support the organisation and its customers by working practically with a variety of marine satellite communication systems. You will be an integral part of our Service Engineering Team, delivering servicing, installation, and commissioning activities for a large portfolio of communications systems including GMDSS, VSAT, and on-board satellite and radio communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently carry out site surveys, installations, commissioning, fault-finding, repairs, and inspections on board vessels.
- Test and prepare equipment prior to and post-installation.
- Undertake compliance testing and deliver a full technical handover to the customer upon completion.
- Perform 1st and 2nd tier system monitoring.
- Attend and support product and acceptance trials.
- Produce timely, detailed service reports.
- Take ownership of service engineering levels, handling business-critical issues, alerts, and incidents.
- Maintain high self-motivation, adapt to varying role demands, and travel worldwide as required for vessel support and installations.
Person Specification & Requirements
Essential Experience & Background
- Experienced Service Engineer, ideally with an electronics or marine bias.
Qualifications & Technical Skills
- Completed apprenticeship in Marine and/or Electronics Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Ability to read technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to pass an offshore medical assessment.
- Full UK Driving Licence and valid Passport with UK work clearance.
- Sound knowledge of the marine industry/environment.
- Basic understanding of IP networking.
- Problem Solving & Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills; proactive problem solver with a systematic approach to task execution under pressure.
- Work Ethic & Qualities: Self-sufficient, tenacity to achieve goals, curious to learn latest technologies, and accountable for service quality.
