Responsibilities

  • Plan and safely carry out repairs and improvements to built‑environment infrastructure such as modular paving, kerb installation, bituminous macadam laying, concreting, pipe laying, hard and soft landscaping including drainage repair, excavation and shoring.
  • Apply design drawings, specifications and civil engineering techniques to guide work.
  • Use safety methods with PPE, correct manual handling, and operate small plant and equipment including excavators, rollers, compaction equipment, dumpers, motorised circular saws and other highways equipment.
  • Abide by the Health & Safety at Work Act, Road Traffic Act and apply safe methods to all activities.
  • Operate a range of vehicles with a gross weight up to and including 32 tonnes LGV.

Qualifications

  • Competence in working on minor civil engineering projects in a built and operational environment.
  • Working knowledge of design specifications and drawings.
  • Working knowledge and application of Health & Safety in an operational environment.
  • Operational record keeping including vehicle checks, accident reporting, near‑misses, delivery notes and requisition notes.
  • Ability to delegate and allocate tasks to team members under senior officer guidance.
  • NVQ Level 2 or above in Construction Operations.
  • Current Heavy Goods Licence class 2 or above with Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
