We are seeking an experienced Senior Minerals Surveyor to join the group of professionals in our Planning and Environmental Department. This small highly motivated team works closely with the Board of Directors to expand the resource base of the company through the identification of new mineral prospects and by securing regulatory consent. We also manage regulatory compliance of our existing property portfolio of active quarry and minerals related operations across Ireland.
As Minerals Surveyor, you will participate in the prospecting, identification and quantifying of potential mineral sites. You'll conduct surveys and undertake detailed extraction designs to investigate the commercial potential of quarrying, assess risk, predict environmental impacts and map mineral deposits. You'll look at the economic viability of working on a potential site and support planning applications, as well as help to negotiate legal contracts and establish rights to work a quarry. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional with strong technical skills who is comfortable working between site-based operations and office-based analysis, and who wishes to be involved in planning, environmental compliance, and operational decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake exploration work to explore, map and develop sites for mineral extraction
- Produce accurate survey drawings, sections and plans for operational, planning and statutory purposes
- Support planning compliance, including reserve calculations for planning applications and EIARs
- Liaise with planners, environmental consultants, engineers and regulatory authorities as required
- Provide advice on developing and managing mineral sites safely and within regulations
- Carry out quarry and surface topographic surveys using GPS, total stations and drone data
- Build accurate 3D models using digital terrain modelling (LSS preferred) and specialist CAD (AutoCAD or similar) software to map the structure of a site
- Prepare volumetric calculations for extraction, overburden, stockpiles and restoration
- Assist with mineral resource estimation and annual reconciliation
- Deal with ownership rights, negotiating purchase and lease contracts and arranging access onto sites
- Provide valuations of mineral deposits
- Explore marine aggregate extraction opportunities
- Give advice on how best to restore the landscape after extraction is complete
- Meet with members of the public and provide information and advice to them as required
- Valuations for Commercial Rates revaluations and revisions
- Provide advice regarding minerals leases and licenses
Skills & Experience
- Degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Mining, Minerals Engineering or related discipline
- 5 plus years’ experience as a Minerals Surveyor
- Proficiency with survey software such as LSS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar
- Experience with GNSS, total stations and point‑cloud / drone data
- Strong understanding of volumetric methods and reporting
- Knowledge of Irish planning and environmental processes is advantageous
- Full clean driving licence
