The Role

You will lead in a one‑team culture while actively contributing to your own skills and experience. To co‑ordinate the design team to deliver the required outputs for a portfolio of projects under the guidance of a design manager. We are seeking a Principle Electrical Design Engineer who can demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Provide commitment to excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) in design, complying fully with Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM) and all other relevant H&S legislation.
  • An in‑depth knowledge of the layout and interconnectivity of typical water and wastewater treatment works processes and equipment including pumping systems.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with other engineering disciplines and clients.
  • Ability to produce clear and concise electrical design deliverables across all design stages of a project.
  • Ability to manage design delivery and project manage.
  • Leadership skills to manage and motivate individuals to consistently deliver.
  • Willingness to contribute to and develop technical knowledge networks.
  • Drive to be abreast of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions.
  • Flexibility to travel within the UK (including Northern Ireland) and Ireland would be advantageous to help support our overall workload.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities of the Senior Electrical Design Engineer are outlined as follows:

  • Reporting to the Design Manager.
  • Part of a multi‑disciplined team of engineers responsible to produce design deliverables for water, wastewater and process treatment plants.
  • Responsible for assisting in all aspects of Electrical design from site surveys of existing assets, optioneering, feasibility studies, detailed design and tender pricing.
  • Production of procurement specifications for Electrical equipment; cable calculations and production of detailed design construction drawings.
  • Project managing third party designs and providing design assistance to installation and commissioning teams.
  • Liaising with clients and subcontractors.
  • Work as part of a team to support project delivery function, embracing the ethos of a “one team” culture.
  • Ensure Design, Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to.
  • Monitoring of design delivery performance and efficiency, adjusting and reacting as necessary to ensure targets are achieved and ensuring the MIDP is kept up to date.
  • Produce Electrical design outputs as and when required.
  • Ensure Glan Agua’s & the Clients’ Technical Requirements are met throughout the design.
  • Conduct regular meetings with project delivery teams to allocate resources, monitor the plan and adjust as necessary in consultation with the project delivery teams.
  • Monitor and update Design Change Control.
  • Liaise between Mechanical and Civil & Structural Designers.
  • Be involved in the growth and development of the company including expansion of the direct delivery model.
  • Provide robust leadership and a sounding board for supporting site teams.
  • Show an eagerness to learn and progress in your own career as well as the mentoring and training of more junior staff.
  • Other duties as required from time to time.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

The main knowledge, skills and experience required are outlined as follows:

  • Chartered or Incorporated member of the IET with extensive experience in water or wastewater, non‑infrastructure, and infrastructure design.
  • Knowledge of the Designer and Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015.
  • Experience managing design quality control processes.
  • Experience developing a programme and budget and monitoring progress against both.
  • Able to communicate clearly and work effectively to lead a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven record in mentoring and developing staff in design.
  • Experience working with Thames & Yorkshire Water’s electrical design standards’ documents an advantage but not essential.
  • Strong team leader & decision maker with proven experience essential.
  • Water and Wastewater design experience highly desirable.
  • Commercial experience is desirable.
  • An interest in developing a career within an industry‑leading organisation.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in project delivery and provide input at team meetings.
  • Ability to use own initiative, problem solve and adjust as issues arise.
  • Good working knowledge of MS packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills with a high level of motivation.
  • Full driving licence.
