The Opportunity
Do the hills, the fresh air, and wild landscape make you feel alive? At The Bracken Hide, we believe luxury doesn’t mean staid, it means embracing the elements. We’re looking for Housekeepers who thrive outdoors, who’s non‑stop energy on uneven terrain, and that take pride in transforming hides nestled on rugged hillside into warm, spotless sanctuaries. If you love being part of something wild and beautiful, if morning mist over Loch Portree and power showers don’t scare you, but excite you, you might be exactly who we need.
Key Responsibilities
- Deep‑cleaning, turning over hides after check‑out: making beds, changing linens, replenishing toiletries, ensuring power showers work, tidying decks.
- Carrying supplies up paths, sometimes uphill; moving between hides rather than hotel corridors, stamina & physical fitness are essential.
- Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in all guest areas, including the Bracken facilities (restaurants, sauna, lounges, etc.).
- Spot‑checking hides for damages, helping with minor maintenance issues (reporting them & sometimes basic fixes).
- Dealing with weather: drying wet hide entrances, managing muddy footprints, ensuring interiors remain cozy even after storms.
- Ensuring all supplies (linens, cleaning chemicals, toiletries) are stocked and stored safely.
- Collaborating with front of house and maintenance teams to ensure guest satisfaction.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience is great, especially in lodges, cabins, outdoors, or remote sites, but attitude and work ethic matter even more.
- Physically fit & able: walking up slopes, carrying linen and supplies up paths, working in conditions that might be wet, windy, or cold.
- Pride in attention to detail: clean lines, fresh bedding, polished surfaces, good presentation, even in the cauldron of nature.
- Self‑motivated, proactive: able to move between hides independently, manage time wisely, alert to what needs doing.
- Flexibility: weather and guest flow can change daily; you’ll need to adapt to different tasks, timings.
- Friendly, helpful, guest‑focused: you’ll be part of their first impressions and their last callback, warmth goes a long way.
What’s Tough, and What’s Amazing
- Tough: Walking between hides on uneven ground; exposure to rain, wind, sometimes sun glare; carrying supplies over paths.
- Dealing with elements: wet gear, muddy walkways, changing weather.
- Remote‑ish site: fewer creature comforts from city life; fewer shortcuts.
- Breathtaking views over Loch Portree, the hills, the Sound of Raasay; being immersed in nature every day.
- Luxury hides that are part of something design‑led, striking, unique.
- Facilities like sauna, plunge pools, whisky bar, you’re not just cleaning; you’re maintaining someone’s dream retreat.
- Sense of pride: helping craft an escape for guests yearning for peace, nature, and beauty.
