Role Headline
Lead in the analytical chemistry aspects of major projects at Torbay Pharmaceuticals. You will develop and validate analytical methods to support new product introduction and formulation development, allowing Torbay Pharmaceuticals to exploit full use of its current and future portfolio. Excellent knowledge and experience in using and problem solving with a range of analytical methods and instrumentation (inc. HPLC, ICP, titrimetry) is critical. Ability to write clear and coherent analytical protocols and reports and verbally communicate analytical issues and assessment of data. Able to supervise and train others and troubleshoot issues with methodology and instrumentation.
About the Role
This role will sit within the New Product Development Hub, a team of specialists involved in all aspects of bringing new products to market. You will be considered an expert within the analytical field at Torbay Pharmaceuticals and one of the go-to people to solve problems that arise in the laboratory or to help solve issues seen elsewhere such as in manufacturing. We have formed a supportive team across the analytical sphere and share our ideas and thoughts about analytical challenges. The wider hub team includes production development specialists, project managers, stability analysts and with links to the regulatory affairs and Quality teams. You will report to and be supported by the Analytical Manager within this hub. You will work closely with QC with whom we share an analytical laboratory.
Health & Safety responsibilities

- Identifying and promptly reporting Health & Safety hazards and incidents
- Following all Health & Safety procedures and challenging or escalating anything that could present a risk to people, product or site operations.
What you can expect
- Developing new analytical methods largely utilising HPLC, ICP and titrimetry
- Validating new methods
- Method transfer in from our partner organisations
- Method transfer out to the QC laboratory
- Conduct compatibility studies supporting product manufacture
- Conduct hypothesis studies and investigations
- Input to product formulation decisions
- Manage the work of a small team of support analysts
- Writing and reviewing analytical protocols and reports including raw data
- Supervision of execution of protocols
- Interrogating and drawing conclusions from analytical data
- Technical discussions with partner organisations
- Liaise with outsource laboratories to complete analysis unable to be completed in-house
- Maintenance and calibration of equipment
- Stock control of laboratory consumables
- Application of site Health and Safety principles
What we are looking for
- Excellent theoretical knowledge and practical experience of HPLC instrumentation
- Good knowledge of a range of other analytical techniques
- Good general chemistry knowledge
- Previous experience working in GMP/GLP environment
- Familiar with ICH guidance, national pharmacopoeia and governing bodies (MHRA, FDA)
