Job Purpose

The Assistant Farm Manager will be working closely with the Farm Manager and be assisting in the day to day managing of a pig finishing unit, ensuring well-being and performance of livestock.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Farm Manager in ensuring the team are engaged and focused through two‑way communications, understand and work towards department targets, and build on their skills through assessment, training and feedback.
  • Take charge of other departments on the farm when required.
  • On call rota for feed and alarm systems.
  • Be responsible for the whole site in the Farm Manager's absence and ensure that all stock associated with the farm are managed to the highest level; death rates are minimised and below target; animal welfare issues are minimised by proactive identification and treatment; highest level of Animal Welfare, Red Tractor and environmental standards are always adhered to; animal health strategies are agreed with the Company Vet before being implemented.
  • Ensure accurate and up to date records are maintained for all farm activities in the manager's absence (cloud farming, movement licences, feed and raw material management, feed system management, stock, animal health traceability, staff clockings, training etc.).
  • Work with other business departments when required.
  • Comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Protect the Health and Safety of all through instituting and adherence to a safety culture.
  • Eliminate, minimise or isolate all Health, Safety or Environmental hazards.
  • Ensure adherence to all Company Policies and Procedures.

Job Requirements

  • Positive can‑do attitude and willingness to learn quickly in a changing environment.
  • Experience working with growing and finishing pigs.
  • Good level of English and maths.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Previous experience with computerised liquid feeding and environmental control systems.
  • Excellent animal welfare and hygiene practice; strict cleaning and biosecurity protocols.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn.
  • Previous experience managing people (full training will be given).
  • Previous experience in dealing with day‑to‑day running of a farm.
  • Driving licence.
