We are looking for a Health and Safety Manager to lead, develop and implement the organisation’s health and safety strategy, ensuring full compliance with UK legislation and best practice, while embedding a proactive safety culture across all areas of the business. The role is responsible for reducing risk, protecting employees and stakeholders, and ensuring safe operational delivery. This is a highly visible role where you will partner with stakeholders at all levels, providing expert advice, delivering meaningful improvements and ensuring health and safety remains practical, proportionate and aligned with business objectives.
You will hold an appropriate and relevant H&S qualification (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma, NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent) and have proven experience in a H&S Manager role.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Lead the Group's health and safety function, providing expert guidance and support to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
- Develop and implement the Group's health and safety strategy, policies and management systems in line with UK legislation and industry best practice.
- Maintain and continuously improve the health and safety risk register, ensuring risks are identified, assessed and effectively managed.
- Produce high-quality management information, reports and analysis to support informed decision-making at Board and leadership level.
- Oversee the investigation, reporting and management of accidents, incidents and near misses, including compliance with RIDDOR requirements.
- Plan and deliver a programme of health and safety audits across operational sites, driving corrective actions through to completion.
- Ensure risk assessments, method statements and compliance processes are robust, practical and consistently applied across the business.
- Manage contractor and supplier health and safety standards, ensuring compliance with legal and company requirements.
- Lead the delivery of health and safety training, awareness programmes and Toolbox Talks, helping to build capability and engagement across the organisation.
- Coordinate first aid, fire marshal and emergency preparedness arrangements across all locations.
- Champion a positive safety culture through coaching, engagement and visible leadership, encouraging accountability and behavioural change.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, using data, trends and insights to enhance health and safety performance.
Who you are:
- An experienced Health & Safety professional with a proven track record in a management role, ideally within a multi-site operational environment.
- Professionally qualified in Health & Safety, with strong knowledge of current UK legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Commercially aware, with the ability to balance operational needs and risk management through a practical, proportionate approach.
- Experienced in driving positive cultural change and influencing stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership teams.
- A confident self-starter who takes ownership, works independently and delivers results without the need for close supervision.
- Analytical and detail-oriented, with the ability to produce clear, concise reports and recommendations for executive audiences.
- An excellent communicator who can adapt their style to engage effectively with both frontline colleagues and senior stakeholders.
- Passionate about creating safe working environments while supporting business performance and continuous improvement.
- Have a full UK driver's licence with a maximum of 3 points.
- Have a clear DBS check to enable site visits.
Salary: £50,000 per annum
Location: Lancing with hybrid flexibilities after probation period.
