We are recruiting a Senior Portfolio Manager, Active Equities to take responsibility for multiple investment mandates and relationships with a range of external equity managers.
Based in Wolverhampton, you will play a key role in building a professional, high performing Active Equity investment function, combining portfolio oversight, equity analysis and strategic input.
You will also support the Investment Director and ensure the capability and capacity of your team continues to meet Partner Fund needs.
This is a certified role under the Senior Managers and Certification Regime and is subject to Fitness and Propriety assessments and other regulatory requirements.
What you’ll be doing
- Managing value enhancing multi manager portfolios, sub funds and investment mandates, including tactical and strategic asset allocation.
- Deputising for the Investment Director(s) when required, including attending Investment Committee and client meetings, and supporting committee presentations.
- Delivering and evidencing investment targets for Partner Funds across your mandates.
- Ensuring your team integrates, documents and maintains Investment Committee policies for the portfolios you oversee, including LGPS Central’s responsible investment approach.
- Embedding and monitoring risk and compliance across your portfolios and team in line with the Risk and Compliance Framework.
- Running mandates to deliver value for money for Partner Funds and identifying opportunities to improve risk adjusted returns after charges.
- Providing assurance to the Head of Listed Equities that portfolios are managed within prospectus or mandate parameters and Company policies.
- Following established processes for creating new external mandates or developing existing products.
- Ensuring manager selection, appointment, monitoring, reporting, retendering and transitions follow the framework set by the Investment Committee.
- Leading by example to create a rigorous, high performing, collaborative, research led and responsible investing culture.
- Acting as an ambassador for LGPS Central with Partner Funds, regulators, stakeholders and the investment community.
- Leading delivery of projects set by the Head of Listed Equities or Investment Director(s), ensuring they are resourced, delivered on time and to budget.
- Delivering a transparent, auditable and repeatable investment process across portfolios and team activity.
- Line managing and developing Portfolio Managers and other team members.
- Leading quarterly meetings with external managers to stay close to market developments and performance.
- Continually improving the team’s approach and process, inspiring colleagues to contribute to better outcomes.
- Presenting clearly to stakeholders, including Partner Funds, councillors, consultants and internal colleagues, explaining strategy and performance.

Requirements
You will bring strong active equities experience, ideally within an asset management or institutional setting, alongside:
- Experience of collaborative investment decision making.
- Strong skills in selecting investments, documenting the rationale, portfolio construction and ongoing monitoring.
- Proven experience managing investment portfolios successfully and or strong experience in equity analysis and stock picking.
- Ability to evaluate performance and risk objectively.
- A proven capability in manager research and selection, including understanding and clearly articulating manager strategies.
- Experience across different segments of the equity landscape.
- Confidence engaging with external managers and building effective, long term relationships.
- Skill in constructing and managing multi manager portfolios.
- A holistic understanding of risk management and its application within a multi manager structure.

- Degree level or equivalent
- Has or can meet all the requirements of being an FCA approved person.
