We are looking for experienced investors to join our Active Equity Investment Team as a Portfolio Manager.
Based in Wolverhampton, you will report to a Senior Portfolio Manager in Active Equities and work with your peers to build a professional, high performing investment function.
You will take responsibility for equity analysis and the management of equity portfolios and multi manager portfolios, implementing the investment, responsible investment, and risk and compliance policies set by the Investment Committee within the portfolios you manage.
This is a certified role under the Senior Managers and Certification Regime and is subject to Fitness and Propriety assessments and other regulatory requirements.
What you’ll be doing
- Managing active multi manager equity sub funds and investment mandates.
- Owning delivery of investment targets for Partner Funds across your portfolios, with clear documentation and auditability.
- Integrating and maintaining Investment Committee investment policies applicable to your portfolios, alongside LGPS Central’s approach to responsible investment and engagement.
- Managing risk and compliance in line with the Company’s Risk and Compliance Framework.
- Running mandates to deliver value for money for Partner Funds and identifying opportunities to improve risk adjusted returns after charges.
- Providing documented assurance to the Senior Portfolio Manager that portfolios are managed within the Prospectus, Investment Management Agreement and Company policies.
- Contributing to a high performing, collaborative, research based and responsible investing culture across the investment team.
- Acting as an ambassador for LGPS Central with Partner Funds, regulators, stakeholders and the wider investment community.
- Supporting the creation of new external mandates and the retender or consolidation of existing mandates, when directed.
- Taking ownership of trading, company meetings, manager selection, transitions, investor relations and strategy development tasks as required.
- Leading quarterly meetings with external managers to stay close to market developments and manager performance.
- Working with colleagues to create value enhancing multi manager portfolios.

LGPS Central (LGPSC) Ltd is the FCA regulated asset manager for eight local authority pension funds across the Midlands.
LGPSC is jointly owned on an equal shares basis by those Partner Fund, and it is responsible for managing £45bn+ of their assets.
It is one of eight Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) asset pools in the UK.
Requirements
- Experience of collaborative investment decision making.
- Strong skills in selecting investments, documenting the rationale, portfolio construction and ongoing monitoring.
- Proven experience managing investment portfolios successfully and or strong experience in equity analysis and stock picking.
- Ability to evaluate performance and risk objectively.
- A proven capability in manager research and selection, including understanding and clearly articulating manager strategies.
- Experience across different segments of the equity landscape.
- Confidence engaging with external managers and building effective, long term relationships.
- Skill in constructing and managing multi manager portfolios.
- A holistic understanding of risk management and its application within a multi manager structure.

- Degree level or equivalent
- Has or can meet all the requirements of being an FCA approved person.
