What you’ll be doing
- As an Investment Risk Analyst, a flavour of what you will get involved in includes:
- Assist in the delivery of LGPS Central’s Investment Risk Policy and associated procedures, ensuring consistent application across funds and mandates.
- Produce, check and distribute daily, weekly and monthly risk reports, highlighting key exposures, breaches, and trends across portfolios.
- Maintain data integrity within the risk systems, ensuring all positions, benchmarks, and market data are accurate and up to date.
- Support the monitoring of risk limits, exposures, stress tests and performance attribution measures.
- Help identify and explain changes in portfolio risk profiles, concentration levels, and market sensitivities.
- Work with the Investment Risk Manager and Senior Investment Risk Manager to develop and enhance quantitative models for market, credit, and liquidity risk.
- Run Va R, stress testing and scenario analysis to assess portfolio resilience under different market conditions.
- Support validation and back‑testing of models and ensure methodologies are documented and applied consistently.
- Use analytical tools (e. g. Power BI, Python, Excel, Tableau) to automate recurring analyses and improve efficiency and visualisation.
- Conduct data quality checks and reconciliations between internal systems and third‑party providers.
- Support for Public & Private Markets
- Support the assessment and reporting of risks for both Public Market portfolios (equities, fixed income, multi‑asset) and Private Market portfolios (private equity, credit, infrastructure, property).
- Work with portfolio teams to ensure new investments, valuation updates and transactions are correctly captured within the risk system.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of look‑through risk analytics for multi‑layered fund structures.
- Assist in the preparation of risk analysis and dashboards for Private Markets oversight reviews.
- Prepare inputs for Committee papers and management reports, ensuring accuracy and clarity of data and commentary.
- Contribute to risk audits, assurance reviews and model validation exercises, collating evidence and supporting responses.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks within risk system upgrades, data projects or automation initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and consistency across reporting and analysis processes.
- Keep up to date with regulatory expectations and industry best practice in investment risk management.
- Work collaboratively across the Investment, Risk, and Operations teams to foster a culture of openness, transparency and challenge.
- Support the team’s knowledge sharing, learning sessions and cross‑training efforts.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, pursuing relevant qualifications and technical skills.
- Act as an ambassador for the Risk function, demonstrating curiosity, integrity and a constructive approach to challenge.

LGPSC is jointly owned on an equal shares basis by those Partner Funds, and it is responsible for managing £100bn+ of their assets.

Requirements
- Prior experience in an investment risk, performance, or investment operations role within asset management, pensions, or financial services.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with proficiency in Excel and comfort working with large, complex data sets.
- Basic understanding of market, credit, and liquidity risk concepts, as well as key investment risk metrics (e. g. Va R, tracking error, beta, duration).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data handling and reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills – able to present findings clearly and concisely.
- A collaborative team player who demonstrates initiative and accountability.
- Experience using risk systems or data platforms such as Bloomberg PORT, Aladdin, or MSCI Barra.
- Familiarity with data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau) or programming languages (Python, R, SQL).
- Knowledge of Private Market investment structures and associated risks.
- Previous exposure to Committee paper preparation or governance reporting.
