We help our audiences pursue their passions through highly trusted, original content – in print, video and online. Our much-loved brands include BBC Science Focus, BBC Wildlife, YourHome, Gathered.how, BikeRadar and Cycling Plus. We also have an award-winning content agency that works with major charities, brands and membership organisations to help them tell their stories and engage audiences better – in print, video, and online.

Position: We are looking for a Content Assistant to support the Editor and team in continuing to drive forward growth in the world’s longest-running and best-loved nature magazine brand. In recent years BBC Wildlife has grown from being a much-loved magazine into a multi-channel brand that encompasses a thriving website, news aggregators such as Apple News+, Google Discover and MSN, social, podcast and video. This role encompasses all platforms and would provide opportunities to learn and develop skills in diverse areas, as well as give a valuable big-picture view into all aspects of a media brand.

Responsibilities:

  • General administration required by the Group Editor, Managing Editor, Group Digital Lead and other members of the editorial team, covering day to day tasks of running the magazine and associated channels, including support with commissioning, accounts and records.
  • Liaising with internal and external teams and partners to assist in all aspects of the brand.
  • Helping co-ordinate content creation.
  • Depending on experience, there may be opportunities to write copy and create and edit content on all platforms.

A bit about you:

  • Demonstrable experience of writing and excellent command of the English language.
  • A working knowledge of CMS and SEO.
  • A highly organised individual who can multi-task and keep several projects moving forward at one time.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A proactive and adaptable individual who can balance a diverse range of tasks, depending on what is needed on the day.
  • A talented communicator with a professional manner and the ability to represent the brand online and in person.
  • The tenacity to take the initiative to achieve aims, such as picking up the phone to contact an interviewee or contributor.
  • An interest in wildlife and conservation issues.
  • Knowledge of InDesign.
  • Experience of subbing and editing copy.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, X, Pinterest, TikTok and YouTube.

Other information: We respect and value differences. We believe that when people from different backgrounds and with different perspectives work together, we can create the most value for our people, readers, customers, and society. If you are excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly with everything listed in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway, as you may still be a good fit for this or other roles.
