Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 6:00pm (flexible early/late start or finish rota)

Role Purpose

Provide outstanding care and early education for babies in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment, while overseeing the day-to-day operation of the baby room. Ensures all needs are met through high-quality routines, activities, and interactions, in line with the EYFS framework. The Baby Room Lead is also responsible for leading and supporting the room team, maintaining high standards of practice, and building strong partnerships with parents to promote each child’s wellbeing, development, and early learning.

About the Nursery

Our newly refurbished nursery is perfectly located near the train station, with convenient on-site bike and car parking. Sancton Wood Nursery is a nurturing, family-friendly environment supporting children aged 12 months to 4 years, and is celebrated for its outstanding approach to each child’s social and emotional development. Our spacious outdoor garden is a magical space for little explorers. With Forest School sessions, a large climbing frame, a water pump, and a sandpit, children have endless opportunities to develop physically, creatively, and socially in a safe and inspiring setting. The nursery operates 48 weeks a year, closing at Christmas, Easter, and for two weeks in August. Staff also enjoy an additional 5 days’ holiday plus public holidays that fall outside nursery closure periods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily running of the room and supervise staff
  • Ensure a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment
  • Plan and deliver age-appropriate activities in line with EYFS
  • Monitor children’s development and maintain learning records
  • Oversee care routines (meals, sleep, toileting, hygiene)
  • Ensure safeguarding, health & safety, and hygiene standards are met
  • Build strong partnerships with parents and communicate regularly
  • Support, mentor, and guide team members
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with policies

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Level 3 (or equivalent) in EYFS or above

Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience working with 1–2-year-olds
  • Previous experience in a Room Lead or supervisory role
