With new projects and forecasted high throughput required in Manufacturing, we are looking to recruit an experienced CNC Lathe Setter / Operator on a permanent basis on day shift 8-5 Mon-Thurs, 8-4 Fri.
Role Purpose
The purpose of the Setter/Operator role is to ensure the production of turned parts through the turning cell by way of machine utilisation and direct programming where required.
Setting the part/process up and operating CNC lathes where required to ensure due dates are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others by following health and safety procedures.
- Adhere to and promote good environmental practices.
- Operate DMG and Hardinge lathes to produce components to the planned schedule.
- Manage the machine's workload to ensure any delays are avoided.
- Support the other machine operator/setters in technical queries.
- Action NCRs to ensure products are moved on through the process at a reasonable pace where possible and strive to establish data driven route cause corrections.
- Work with the ME department on upcoming jobs regarding setup conditions, methods of manufacture, and tooling improvements.
- Relationship Management
- Continue to build trust and mutual respect with all departments of the operations department by communicating effectively, professionally, and supporting other departments where necessary.
- Continue to build trust and mutual respect with all engineering departments, provide constructive feedback, and align technical feasibility of a product.
- Ensure consistency, alignment and knowledge sharing by collaborating with other members of the machine shop on assigned tasks.
- Support Cell Lead in acting as the bridge between the machine shop and Planning/ME/QE groups to ensure communication and drive to a common goal.
Skills & Attributes
- Ability to produce tight tolerance turned parts to a high degree of quality and consistently.
- Good general IT and mathematical skills.
- Understanding of CNC code generation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Understanding of engines and the components within.
- Understanding of different CNC machine capabilities and physical attributes.
- Refined technical knowledge of CNC manufacture along with methods of manufacture.
- Understanding of root cause analysis and how to apply it in the real world.
- Open mindset to new ideas and be able to look inward as well as outward towards opportunities for improvement.
- Ability to use a calm and measured approach to technical issues that may arise.
Qualifications & Experience
- Apprentice trained to a minimum of level 3 or above and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in CNC manufacture.
- Experience of setting and operating 3 axis lathes with driven tooling.
- Experience with Siemens Controls.
- Experience with Hydrafeed bar feed system preferred.
- Experience of turning on manual machinery preferred.
- Experience in CNC code generation through direct programming or CAM generation.
