We are looking for a caring and compassionate Support Assistant to join our team at Ty Catwg. The successful candidate will have experience of working in a care or support environment, and an understanding of the impact of trauma and working in a psychologically informed way. The role can be challenging. Every member of the hostel team brings a unique personality, creating a supportive, inclusive and welcoming workplace like no other. What you’ll do…

  • You will support colleagues to enable and assist people at Ty Catwg who are aged 16+ and who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and who have complex support needs, to make positive changes to their lives.
  • By building positive relationships and taking a work‑with approach, you will help residents achieve their goals and move on successfully into independent accommodation.
  • Following the support plans agreed by service users and their support officers, you will follow safety and risk plans designed to maintain project safety.

What you'll bring to the role…

  • Experience of working in a care or support environment
  • Understanding of the impact of trauma and working in a psychologically informed way
  • The ability to respond in a calm and composed manner
  • The ability to work on own initiative, as well as part of a team
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Ability to work 12‑hour shifts as part of a rolling rota, including weekends, bank holidays and occasional night shifts
  • Be part of the on‑call rota
  • A positive approach to tackling project wide issues and responding positively to residents
  • Experience of managing challenging behaviour and resolving conflict
