This role involves providing personal care to female service users. For reasons of dignity and privacy, it is necessary for the post-holder to be female. This requirement is permitted under the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1, Paragraph 1, as a genuine occupational requirement.

The enrichment team works closely with the therapies team to support communication, assistive technology, hydrotherapy, and rebound therapy, while also providing access to a range of activities like arts and crafts, sailing, abseiling, and music sessions.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative, proactive, and passionate Activities Coordinator to join our dedicated Enrichment Team. Please read the job description fully before you submit your application.

The hours for the role are expected to be 08:30am – 4pm, Monday to Thursday, and 8:30am – 3pm on Fridays, but this is subject to change as the service grows and expands, and may include some weekend working in the future.

Main Responsibilities:

Role Specific Development of Autonomy – Delivery:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with all young people and adults accessing the service, contributing to their Person-Centred Plans and creating a pleasant, happy, and safe environment within the enrichment programme.
  • Work together as part of the ELMS team to deliver a sustainable enrichment programme, constantly evaluating and striving for an exciting, individualised, and progressive enrichment programme.
  • Deliver a variety of activity sessions across a weekly timetable to increase independence, fun, and interaction while promoting choice and participation in every session for every individual who attends.
  • Be flexible and supportive to provide short notice cover for sessions as required, facilitating the continued delivery of programmes.
  • Take a proactive approach in the ongoing success of activities in various environments including residential services, ELMS Day service, and the local community.
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate needs-led activities to engage and stimulate young people and adults.

Development of Autonomy – Administration:

  • Take a proactive approach and responsibility to constantly review and improve the ELMS programme including session content, resources, and session direction while maintaining awareness of the overall development of the wider programme.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping and complete daily documents: Session plans with a strategic weekly plan (Scheme of work), Person-centre plans, Significant Events.
  • Accurately document all necessary tasks on required documentation (Kardex, Care Plans, MAR Sheets) in a timely manner, including further communications with other team members where necessary.
  • Monitor changes within the Care Plans to ensure consistent and high quality of care.
  • Record all incidents electronically in an accurate and timely manner.

Personal Development:

  • Take a creative and open-minded approach in the development of session content and planning, constantly seeking better ways of autonomous working.
  • Take responsibility for self-improvement and actively participate in own CPD and target setting as part of the supervision and observation process.
  • Actively engage in discussion and shared learning opportunities to use the knowledge and experience of other team members to enhance the quality of session delivery and the skillset of the activity coordinator.

Young People / Adult Support / Welfare:

  • Support young people and adults to access a weekly timetable of activities and promote their personal development by creating and delivering innovative activities.
  • Ensure resources are used effectively and records are maintained appropriately.
  • Promote independence, engagement, and facilitate participation.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with young people and adults which will complement and contribute to their Person-Centred Plans.
  • Liaise with the inter-disciplinary team and external support networks regularly to ensure a holistic approach for each individual is maintained and implemented, including appropriate monitoring and development of risk assessments.
  • Regularly read through care plans to ensure knowledge of each individual is current and relevant.
  • Evaluate and record responses to activities detailing aspects of achievement and communicate this appropriately to the inter-disciplinary teams. Ensure reports are prepared when required.
  • Ensure young people and adults are respected and valued with positive feedback on their achievements.
  • Follow physiotherapy postural guidelines to prevent deterioration and maintain each individual’s physical condition.
  • Follow current eating and drinking guidelines to be competent to support when needed and safeguard the individual from harm.
  • Adhere to current behaviour management plans and emergency medication plans to respond accordingly and maintain consistency.
  • Report any concerns regarding the support an individual receives through appropriate channels.

Personal Care & Manual Handling:

  • Assist young people and adults with all areas of personal care, including continence management, ensuring comfort, privacy, and dignity are maintained in accordance with care plans.
  • Implement correct lifting and handling techniques according to Trust policy and individual care plans to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Complete training to be competent in the assistance of personal care and manual handling.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation as outlined by Trust infection control procedures.

Medication:

  • Administer medication and clinical procedures in line with Trust Policies and Procedures.

Environment and Property:

  • Ensure the physical environment is safe and tidy, so young people and adults are comfortable, and their property is secure, reporting maintenance needs as necessary.
  • Maintain equipment for activities so that it is ready for use and in good repair, reporting any defects to the line manager and/or premises team.
  • Be responsible for resources and equipment and store them in the correct place.
  • Be aware of health and safety, follow risk assessments, and support the ongoing review of risk assessments.

Nutritional Needs:

  • Support adults to meet dietary requirements by utilising appropriate feeding methods, monitoring and encouraging food and fluid intake, giving individuals choice and independence, and communicating any concerns.
  • Prepare food for adults following basic hygiene guidelines, ensuring they are involved and given as much independence and choice as possible.
