This is a full-time role based in Telford, Shropshire, involving managing a portfolio of SME clients, acting as their primary point of contact for accounting, tax, and general business advisory matters. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts, management accounts, corporation and personal tax computations.
  • Overseeing workflow, reviewing work prepared by team members, and ensuring all filings meet regulatory deadlines and quality standards.
  • Supporting clients in various aspects, identifying opportunities for tax efficiencies and process improvements.
  • Participating in client meetings, liaising with HMRC and other external stakeholders, and contributing to internal process enhancements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant to take ownership of a portfolio of clients within a supportive firm and offers long-term progression in the practice.

Qualifications:

  • Strong technical accounting skills, including preparation and review of statutory and management accounts, and supporting schedules.
  • Proficiency in tax compliance and planning, including corporation tax, personal tax, and awareness of current UK tax regulations.
  • Competence with accounting and tax software, spreadsheets, and general office applications; ability to adapt quickly to new systems.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and review the work of junior team members, supporting their professional development.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain financial information to non-specialists.
  • Recognized accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA or equivalent), or finalist with substantial relevant practice experience.
  • Previous experience in an accountancy practice environment is highly desirable; experience with SMEs and owner-managed businesses is an advantage.
  • Commitment to ethical standards, continuous professional development, and contributing positively to a collaborative team culture.
